Description: In 1917, the first Forbes100 list was published by editor Bertie Forbes. One hundred years later, 61 of what was then the largest 100 firms in the world have ceased to exist. Most of the companies that came to replace them did not exist in 1917. The last one hundred years have seen an unprecedented rate of innovation and change. A lot of it can be understood by analyzing the sub- and counter-cultures from which they came. From surfers to computer designers, to airplane enthusiasts and youtubers, we sketch the history and the dynamics of this new forms of wealth creation.
